The art of listening.
The craft of capturing.

About

Breughel Music was founded on a simple belief: recording classical music takes both technical mastery and musical understanding. Microphones are like a painter's pencils. They're essential, but never the point. What matters is the musical intent.

Over a decade of listening.

Portret van Karel Bruggemann van Breughel Music

For 14 years, I have guided classical recording projects for radio, CD, and live broadcast across Europe. I have worked with soloists, chamber music ensembles, and full orchestras, always with the same focus on sound quality, musical coherence, and respectful collaboration.

My network has grown organically, built on lasting relationships and trust in the process. I have had the privilege of working with artists and ensembles across multiple contexts, from studio recordings to live broadcasts and video productions.

Karel's story

My path into recording began with music. After obtaining my master degree as a cellist at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, where I developed a deep understanding of performance and interpretation, I pursued the Tonmeister studies at the Berlin University of the Arts.

The Tonmeister curriculum integrates technical recording with musical analysis. Students learn to approach sound as both engineers and musicians, studying acoustics, electronics, and recording technology alongside music theory, orchestration, and score analysis. This training taught me not only how to operate equipment, but how to listen critically and make decisions that serve the music.

Over the past decade, I have worked across Europe and America with orchestras, soloists, and chamber ensembles, in concert halls from Berlin, over Amsterdam, to Los Angeles and Toronto, at festivals including Mahler Festival 2025 and the Salzburger Festspiele. Each project sharpens the same craft: how to capture a performance with precision, without losing what makes it alive.

I work in multiple languages including English, German, French and Dutch, which lets me collaborate naturally with artists and production teams across different countries and cultures. Technically grounded, musically informed, and always in service of the performance. That remains the foundation of how I work.

Music, made visible
through sound.

If you are looking for a recording partner who listens, technically and musically, I would be honoured to collaborate.
